Edward & Bella - The Couple - Supporters and Opposers
WARNING: This section contains spoilers for all "Twilight" materials that have been released, including the preface and first chapter of "Breaking Dawn", published with the Special Edition of "Eclipse".
Supporters: The people who stand behind Edward and Bella's decision to be together
Alice Cullen: Best friend to both Edward and Bella, she is their biggest cheerleader, perhaps due to the fact
that she has foreseen their future together. She makes no secret of the fact that she would love for Bella to become a vampire and become her sister for good, knowing it would ultimately make Edward happy as well.
Jasper Hale: It is difficult for Jasper to be around Bella, particularly since he almost killed her in a moment of bloodlust, but he surprised her when he voted yes to her becoming a vampire and joining the Cullen family. His ability to sense emotions shows him exactly much much Bella and Edward mean to each other.
Emmett Cullen: Edward's favorite brother is a happy-go-lucky bear of a guy who loves Bella like a little sister already and is endlessly amused by her human clumsiness. He wants nothing more than for everyone to be happy, even if it's through falling in love with a human. He even goes against the opinion of his wife Rosalie on this issue.
Esme Cullen: Edward's mother for all intents and purposes, she has watched her son alone amongst three blissful couples and never truly alive for nearly a century, so she is only all too happy when Bella enters their lives and brings Edward the love and happiness he never knew he needed.
Carlisle Cullen: Edward's father is compassionate beyond measure and has always seen the good in Edward. Though he is protective of his family and a human in their midst complicates things for them all, he supports Edward in whatever he chooses to do. He also agreed to change Bella after her high school graduation if Edward can't go through with it.
Renee Dwyer: Bella's mother picked up on Edward's devotion to Bella early on after the showdown with James in Phoenix, and that instict only intensifies after they visit her in Florida. Bella fears how her mother would react to her getting married so young, but Renee shocks her by being incredibly supportive and happy for her.
Angela Weber: Bella's closest human friend is the only one who truly understands and accepts Edward and Bella's relationship. She never indulges in the school's gossip about the many trials and tribulations of the couple, and is always there to lend an ear and offer relationship advice to Bella.
Aro: The powerful leader of the Volturi vampires is amused by Edward falling in love with a human, and intrigued that Bella is able to block out certain vampire powers. He doesn't have any emotional attachment to either Edward or Bella, but he shows a great deal of interest in Bella becoming a vampire and the couple possibly joining the Volturi ranks.
Seth Clearwater: The young Quiluete werewolf is a surprising supporter of both Edward and Bella, though perhaps not so surprising after he fought alongside Edward against Victoria and the newborns. After Jacob disappears, Seth is nearly the only person in La Push who will still talk to Bella, and maintains a friendship with Edward as well.
Switzerland: People who are neutral on the relationship, or ping-pong back and forth
Rosalie Hale: The only Cullen who does not full support Edward and Bella, Rosalie cites her own tragic story as a human to try to dissuade Bella from choosing to become a vampire. Though she tries her best to be accepting, her vanity and biased judgment prevents her from being anything more than civil to Bella most of the time.
Jessica Stanley: Jessica befriended Bella at first and showed great interest in Edward and Bella's blossoming relationship, but her need for social acceptance, especially by Lauren Mallory, drove her to shun Bella during her "zombie" stage. She remains on shaky ground with Bella and even shakier with Edward.
Marcus: Marcus of the Volturi has the special ability to see relationships, and he is immediately shocked at how strong and intense the feelings are between Edward and Bella when they are in Italy. However, he has given no indication on his personal opinion of their relationship.
Opposers: Those who don't approve of Edward and Bella, or who have tried to break them up
Jacob Black: The werewolf Bella befriended in Edward's absence fell in love with Bella and does everything he can to manipulate and guilt her into choosing him over Edward. Though he ultimately succeeds in getting Bella to admit that she has feelings for him as well, she still knows Edward is her true love and leaves Jacob behind.
Charlie Swan: Though Charlie seemed fine with Edward at first, after many unexplained injuries to Bella's person and the horrendous aftermath of his leaving in New Moon, Edward is probably Charlie's least favorite person in the world. He finally gives in and allows Bella to continue seeing Edward, but makes it clear he wishes she wouldn't.
Mike Newton: Mike was one of Bella's many suitors when she first moved to Forks, but while other boys moved on after it became clear she was smitten with Edward, Mike persisted and never quit hoping for the couple's break-up so he himself might have a shot at dating her. He remains friendly with Bella but will probably never warm to Edward.
