Edward & Bella - The Movie - Sound Bytes

Robert Pattinson:
On Kristen Stewart: Kristen is the best actress of our generation, and the reason I wanted to do this film. I don't know why she's so good, she's just better than everyone else.

On deciding to take the part: I had no idea how to play the part when I went in, and it was a good thing to find during the audition. I really wanted it after that, but I didn’t really even know what it was. I hadn’t really read any of the books. And just from that, ‘I want this job.’ It was pretty much because of Kristen.

On being an action hero: I'm atrociously unfit. Every tiny little stunt takes it out of me. I think I pulled my hamstring on the first stunt of the first day just trying to pick Bella up and she weighs about 100 pounds.

On becoming Edward Cullen: That is what I liked about [taking on] the job, because the guy doesn't really exist that much, so you can just create whatever you want. Then, when I found out there was another book from Edward's perspective, [I read it and it turned out] we had the same perspective!

Kristen Stewart:
On Robert Pattinson: He's so good and he's so soulful and he's just not a liar ... you can feel pain from him.

On shooting action scenes vs. quiet scenes: In the big action sequences, it's a little scary because some people say, 'We're going to get done with the action sequences, and then we'll get to the acting scenes. And it's like, 'Well, that's just not how it works, man.' It's hard to keep what you're doing in the rest of the movie consistent. You can't lose what's going on with the characters. [Quiet scenes] are actually more difficult, because you have to strive to not let it go and not just focus on a wall that's being ripped out or something. In the more intimate scenes, you're given the time to get into it.

Stephenie Meyer:
On Robert and Kristen: I would like to make a few comments about Rob and Kristen, who are the true heart of this movie. First, they are both amazing actors. Second, they are channeling Edward and Bella like nobody's business. Third, you might want to bring a paper bag to the movie, because their on-screen chemistry may cause hyperventilation. That is all.

On on-set reactions to Robert/Kristen: While watching the playback from a very intense scene with Bella and Edward, the girl next to me literally slid right out of her chair - I think her bones melted. She also may have stopped breathing for a few seconds, too. I know I did.

On Robert Pattinson: I want you to know that I am really very pleased about this choice. Robert hasn't been one of the popular fan choices whose faces pop up on my comments page all the time, so I'd never really thought about him in the role before. When I got the news, it took me a little while to consider it (like a lot of you, I was pretty attached to the first person I'd cast in my head as Edward, so I had to readjust for a minute). I looked at all the pictures I could find, finally got around to watching HP4 (which I own, but had never seen before), and I read through the script picturing Robert in the role.

By the time I was done with my research (writing: a line of work where you can legitimately call drooling over hot boys "research."), I was kind of shocked that I'd never considered Robert before. Aside from my dearest Henry, Robert is truly the first person I've pictured in the role who I think can pull it off. The boy just looks like a vampire.

Also, I hear very encouraging things from the people who watched his auditions. They've been at this for months now, you know, reading Edward hopefuls day after day. Robert knocked their socks off; once he read for the part, the search was over. In other good news, apparently there is excellent chemistry between Robert and Kristen (they have all the major actors read together to make sure they fit), his American accent is flawless, AND he's read all three novels!

So YAY! for Robert Pattinson!

On Kristen Stewart: I'm very excited to have Kristen Stewart play Bella in the upcoming Twilight movie. She's an amazing actress with experience all across the board - action, horror, comedy, romance, and more. Since Twilight has moments that fit into every one of these genres, I'm thrilled to have a Bella who has practice with them all.

Summit's vision of the Twilight movie continues to dovetail very closely with mine, and I'm comforted to know that my "baby" is in the right hands.

For every actress that has been suggested as Bella in the past few years, there are always a slew of critics that cry, "But she doesn't look like Bella!" (Which can often be translated thusly: "She doesn't look like ME!") To this I would like to say: "Of course she doesn't!" Bella is a fictional character, and she looks different to everyone. As is the same with every actor who will be cast in the next few months, no one is going to match up with your mental picture exactly - or mine. The thing to hope for is a really great actor who can make us believe she is Bella (or Alice or so forth) for roughly two hours. I think we've got that with Kristen Stewart, and I can't wait to see her step into the role!
